Recognition

Pre-natal recognition:

To acknowledge a child before its birth, both parents must visit the Town Hall together, bringing their identity documents.

Recognition is then recorded immediately.

This procedure can also be carried out on a Saturday. In this case, the parents are requested to contact the Town Hall to make an appointment.

If recognition is not recorded before the child’s birth, this can be done in the birth certificate. In this case, both parents must visit the Town Hall of the place of birth.

Foreign nationals are advised to contact the Town Hall to check whether any additional procedures need to be carried out. The same applies if one of the parents is married.

Post-natal recognition:

To record post-natal recognition in Rebecq, both parents must visit the Town Hall together, bringing their identity cards.

They must also take the child's birth certificate.

From the age of 12, the child must also be present to indicate his or her consent to the recognition.
