His open personality has been shaped by the Italian mountains. Age 42, Marino has been a Deputy Mayor of Rebecq since 2000. Regarded as a sincere and cheerful person, he believes that politics should serve the people, providing a vision of the future and clear information.

You have taken on the role of Registrar again, was this a deliberate choice?

Absolutely. Presiding over marriages is very rewarding. I share a happy moment in people’s lives and that is a very touching experience. You often hear people say that politics has an inhuman side, but that’s not true: serving others brings you a happiness that you can’t find in the business world, for example. I like the human aspect of my role. I serve people, I’m here to listen to them and fulfil their wishes.

What are your plans?

Rebecq is a very lively village where a great deal of activities has developed despite a lack of resources. The atmosphere is very friendly and we are proud of our traditional folklore, an area we need to protect and maintain. We will also be looking at ways of improving lifestyle in other ways, including promoting access to housing for all and consulting the population on various issues.
